My complexion is so pale and lifeless that when someone touches me, they can feel how disconnected and removed I am from the world around me.ĭespite my almost dead-like state, there are certain moments when I feel something resembling life and vitality, like a rose in full bloom when someone blushes. I am experiencing so much emotional pain that it feels like my insides are decaying and my life force is slowly dying away.
My emotional state is so drained and lifeless that I feel as if I should already be dead and buried. The second verse offers a moment of respite, with the protagonist connecting with another person - "Dark eyes meet under the sky/The stars are out, we're alive in the night." However, this is fleeting, as the protagonist then admits that it's hard for them to trust others - "My hollow heart finds it too hard to trust." The final line "We're all alone until we turn back to dust" highlights the transient nature of life, and reinforces the idea that death is the only way out of the protagonist's pain. The following line "Like a rose in bloom when we blush" contrasts this, suggesting that the protagonist was once full of life and love, but has now become cold and unfeeling.
